"COMEDY DAVE" - BBC RADIO 1 BREAKFAST SHOW & "CHAPPERS N DAVE"

How are you enjoying fronting your weekend show with

Chappers?

It's been a bit strange actually, but really enjoyable. It's a totally

different discipline hosting a show (albeit jointly), as opposed to

being Chris's sidekick to bounce off, and it's something I've had to

get my head around and concentrate on. I've thorughly enjoyed it

though, and hope that I've learnt a few things and improved a little

bit as the weeks have gone on.

It's only temporary - until JK and Joel begin - are there

any plans for The Chappers and Dave show to return?

We're not sure. We thought our boxing day show would be a one

off, and then they asked us to do eleven weeks over the summer,

so I have no idea. We'd love to do more, but can only wait and see

if another opportunity arises in the future.

How was Portugal?

Portugal was fantastic. Our job allows us the privilege of attending

some great events, and enjoying some really special trips away,

but Ican't see anything topping our Portuguese experience. The

best part of 3 weeks living and working in a beautiful villa in the

sunshine, going to all of the games and getting paid at the same

time. Life doesn't get much better than that does it?

You're quite opinionated about the music you play. What kind

of stuff do you really not like playing?

I honestly don't have any one genre of music that I dislike. I think

there a good rap records around at the moment, and some shit

ones as well. The same could be said of rock, r'n'b and everything

else. We like what we like essentially. I know that sounds like a

cop out but it's the

truth.

Who - apart from Moyles - is the best radio DJ? Why?

The Radio one line up is probably the strongest it's been for years

in my opinion. Colin and Edith and Scott Mills sound great in the

afternoons. Zane Lowe has slotted in instantly in the evenings,

and sounds like he's been established here for years. The Sunday

surgery with Dr. Mark and Emma B deservedly wins awards year

after year, and seems to go from strength to strength. So there's

loads really..... but if you want me to pick one I'll say Scott. It's

great to hear him on at a sensible time of the day.

What's the best way someone could get into radio?

This is the magical question. Everybody wants to know the answer,

but unfortunately it doesn't exist. All anyone can say is be determined, be

persistant, be creative and don't be put off by rejection. If you want

it hard enough it will come one day, or alternatively you might be a

jammy twat like me and have it land on your lap.

What is your actual job?!

I'm employed as a freelance writer and presenter for the Chris

Moyles show. Aside from the titting around you hear on air, I'm

responsible for all the written elements of the show such as Carpark

Catchphrase, Tedious Link, all of the voice over stuff and any spoof

songs, adverts etc which we knock out from time to time. There's no

real job description as such, but everybody on the team knows their

role and their responsibility, and that's pretty much me.

Has reverse-a-word been commissioned yet?

No not as yet. I think they're probably trying to find a big Saturday

night slot for it. Maybe they could stick it on early doors instead of

Johnny and Denise?

You cant get bigger than the radio 1 breakfast show - so

what can you see happening to the show in the future?

The only way for us now is down, so we just hope to continue

where we are for as long as possible, and try and improve the

figures as much as we can. This show has been an aspirational goal

for years, so now that we've got it, it's up to us not to fuck it up.

What's the best question someone could ask you to get some gossip?

Have you heard about Abi Titmuss and Bob Holness?

And what's the answer?

It's all bollocks. I just made it up.
