IBIZA
A little bit of Nottingham transfers to Ibiza later this summer, when Renaissance plays host to some huge names at Pacha.. They include Pete Tong, on August 19th, and he's back on September 9th with John Digweed and Marcus James. For more information on Renaissance, visit www.renaissanceuk.com Also at Pacha this year, are Defected Records, taking over every Tuesday from now until 20th September. Highlights there include Residents Kenny Dope and Junior Jack. Radio 1's Trevor Nelson will play the world's finest R&B tunes in the Global room. www.defected.com
Staying with Pacha, Galaxy 102.2 has become the first commercial radio station to have a residency in Ibiza, with resident DJ Roger Sanchez, every Monday until 26th September. The 'Release Yourself' parties will also include The Global Room providing the best in R'n'B and Hip-Hop from network DJs Steve Sutherland and 3Style together with Pacha resident Andy B. Pacha Director, Danny Whittle, said: "Pacha are really please to be working with Galaxy and especially pleased to be joining forces on the R'n'B and Hip Hop side of things". Galaxy will be in Ibiza from Friday, 29 July, to Monday, August 1 making this the sixth celebrated year on the island for the UK's biggest commercial radio youth network. For those of you who aint going nowhere this summer, Galaxy will broadcast back to the UK.
Cream celebrates 10 years in Ibiza, with their finest line-up yet. They've blagged Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk once again, as resident DJ's, and also present throughout the next couple of months are the likes of Jon Carter, Jacques u Cont, Touche, Yousef, Shapeshifters, Shakedown, Jo Mills, Andy Carroll, Radio 1’s Annie Mac. Their big anniversary night is Thursday 11th August, with a line-up which boasts many of the above plus special guest Paul Oakenfold. This night is going to be HUGE! If you're still on the white Isle in September, Cream's closing party is on Thursday 22nd September, with Tiesto leading the main room and Shapeshifters doing their thing on the terrace. Cream is hosted at Amnesia.
Moneypenny's has outshone many of it's rivals in the midlands, and it's in serious danger of doing so in Ibiza too. Spiller are in on August 5th, and the superb Jeremy Healy's there on August 26th. Moneypenny's remains at El Divino every week until 23rd September.
Manumisson (at Privelidge) will host one of the biggest parties of the year on Friday 5th August, when they turn 11. Special guest Mylo will be in the main room, while Zane Lowe presents another massive UK Indie band, along with resident band Fischerspooner, in their Indie Rocks room. Look out for Kaiser Cheifs on Friday 2nd September and The Bravery a week later.
Pure Pacha opened for it's third successful year on June 10th. This year, they've only gone and got a live PA from Kelis and guests including Groove Armada, Carl Cox, John Digweed, Bob Sinclair, Darren Emerson, Todd Terry & The Body Rockers to name but a few. After the success of 2004’s award winning poster campaign designer Adam Shepherd gives this years theme a touch of burlesque after being inspired by the film Moulin Rouge. Says Adam: ‘the images show a place where there is attitude and energy.... carefree life, flickleness and joie de vivre... it's about a lust for life…a place to forget, which reflects the same feeling people have when they are in Ibiza... about to go out for the night to PACHA...!’ www.pacha.com
Space has a massive cult following, and if you want to get in, you'd better be prepared to queue. That said, it'll all be worth it when you're on that terrace. This year, you may want to catch Carl Cox's weekly Tuesday night gig, or visit on a Sunday to enjoy Space residents Tiefschwarz.
Radio One's Ibiza weekend is penciled in for Friday 12th - Monday 15th August. Expect live sets from Dave Pearce, Judge Jules, Fergie, and Pete Tong, while Moyles/Coxy etc pretty much take over Cafe's Mambo and Del Mar.
Away from the clubs, you just cannot go wrong with Cafe Mambo, Coastline Cafe, and Cafe Del Mar. All set on a rocky beach in San Antonio, all you need is a beer in hand (hey, there's even an off license up the road!), a spot on the rocks, and the time to sit and watch the sun go down.
Finally, here's something that's just WRONG! Each Wednesday, Espardis present their legendary water party - this year hosted by..... DJ Sammy!!!
If you're bored with Ibiza, or just want to try something a little less mainstream, you'll be surprised by the quality of events going off all over Europe.....
ITALY
Sonica 2005 will be the first open air trance festival in Italy, happening august 5th to 8th on Bolsena lake, an astonishing location between Rome and Florence. The area is surrounded by historical reports of the ancient etrurian civilization and the lake is one of the cleanest big lakes of Europe. Their line-up includes: Hallucinogen.
Infected Mushroom, StriderPanick, Silicon Sound, and loads of other oustanding DJ's from all around Europe. All of the cheapest tickets sold out quickly, but there are still some available, via www.antiworld.net
SERBIA
Ever been to Serbia? If ever there was a reason to go to this part of the world, it has to be the Exit Festival. Taking place between 7th - 10th July, this 4 day festival will set you back just over £40, and the hotels and drinks are cheap as chips. They've excelled themselves with a line-up including White Stripes, Ian Brown, Fatboy Slim, Underworld, Carl Cox, Darren Emerson and hundreds more. It's so good, that MTV and Radio 1 be broadcasting from there. Book a last minute flight and grab your Exit tickets from www.exitfestival.com
GREECE/TURKEY

BARCELONA
Still one of Europe's hottest citys, Barcelona gives Ibiza a run for it's money this year. Try the Moog - a small club dedicated to techno and house, every night of the week. Over the years, it's attracted DJs including Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier and Mixmaster Morris, while also supporting local talent. For something a little bigger, you wont go wrong with Souvenir, surely the finest house music venue in Barcelona. Situated in the Viladecans area, you'll hear a healthy mix of Techno, Trance, House and commercial dance. Space (of Ibiza fame) has it's own night in Tarragona (Sants Montjuic). Running every Friday and Saturday expect the cream of European DJ's in glamorous surroundings.

INTERVIEWS:
INTERVIEW - DAVE PEARCE (Radio 1 DJ)
Where are you DJing this summer?
Tthis summer i am playing in Mallorca at BCM Magaluf,(Alternate Mondays rotating with Judge Jules. Eden in Ibiza with Slinky Every Tuesday from Aug 2nd. Limellight in Kavos Corfu, Slinky in Tenerife at Tramps.
All details at www.davepearce.co.uk
What can we expect from you?
The music I play out is predominantly Trance and Hard Trance with a few anthems of that genre thrown in. Somewhere like Corfu and Tenerife will be more anthemic than Ibiza which is more Euphoric nu trance. The sort of tracks i play in the last half hour of the show
Which tune cant you wait to spin?
I think Ernesto vs Bastion-Dark side ofthe moon will be avery big track in Ibiza this summer- it finally gets its Uk release in Aug. I like a lot of the stuff on Drizzly and Spin inn at the moment and one or twoof the anjunabeats signings
Where are your favourite European venues?
One of my favourite venues is the Fridge in Brixton where we do Knowhere, I love the Escape in Swansea and Dance Academy i Plymouthand of courseEden in Ibiza because of the great nights I've had there
INTERVIEW - ANDY McKAy, MANUMISSION (Promoter)
For many people, Manumission WAS live sex shows. You've moved on from that though - How come?
The sex show got global headlines, and Manumission became a household name as a result. The Sex show was an art project for Mike and Claire. It was a statement to do with repression. With the help of Ibiza uncovered it started filling the club from the bottom up rather than the top down - which was never the intention. That was why it had to go.... We like a challenge. Six years ago when we dropped the sex show, we also took the DJ off the poster at the same time. Many people predicted our demise but after 3 weeks of pain our numbers bounced back and we now sell around 2,000 tickets more a week than we did back then. Manumission is all about evolution. We have never been afraid of leaving good ideas behind for other people to milk.
Manumission remains at the top of it's game despite so much new competition -how have you acheived that?
I think it is down to our philosophy of constant evolution and our recognition that it is all about creating an atmosphere. We always go where the energy is. What is the core of Manumission one year may not even feature the next.
What can we expect from you this summer?
Satisfaction, and possibly financial ruin. In all seriousness whilst we are not selling the family silver we are spending alot more this year than we ever have on the parties which is actually the opposite of what everyone else is doing in the market place. I feel that this year is going to be one of our most succesful, and least proffitable. That said I truly believe that the work we are putting in now will help keep us relevant for the next 10 years. Youth culture is at a turning point and I feel we have our finger on that pulse. This is our most exciting year yet.
Personally, I think Ibiza Rocks seems like a genious idea. Are you confident it will work? What do you have lined up?
All new ventures have there risks, but I do believe it will work, and I think it will work well. Whilst much of the line-ups aren't released yet, selling out the live concerts should not be a problem! We only have 700 tickets to sell. The wider club night which the gigs will be where we will have more flexibility on numbers, and I have no idea how many people that will attract. But we already throw the biggest weekly party in the world so I don't feel we have anything to prove in the quantity department. With Ibiza Rocks I am far more interested in launching something right just as we did with Manumission 11 years ago. It is great to be working along side people like Zane Lowe, Eddie Temple Moris, Rob da Bank and the Barfly. When it comes to live music that is one hell of an a 'n' r team.
INTERVIEW - Lisa Lashes (DJ)
Where can we see you in Europe this summer?
I'm going to be in Ibiza quite a bit again this year doing Judgement Sundays amongst others. I will be headlining Sandstorm in Corfu as well on several occasions. I will be playing in Tenerife. And I will be doing Dance Valley which I am really excited about - my all time favourite DJs will be playing there too. And of course, you can see
me during the very special Summer of Lashed week holiday in Ibiza from June 22nd until June 29th.
What tunes are you exciting about playing?
I've been playing some of my latest productions lately which haven't been released yet, 'Desire' and 'Looking Good', which have gone down really well. I also really like Aftermath's lates track on Tripoli 'Let Me Tell You Something', and for my breaks set 'Put Em Up' by Snuff on Deepcut.
Which venues are you most looking forward to going to this year?
I'm really looking forward to the start of the Balearic season; I always have such a good time out there. But I'm also excited about playing in a country where I've never been before: Lithuania. It should be a really interesting experience; I've always had a great time playing in Eastern countries like Russia for example.
Tell someone who's never seen you play before what they can expect?
I put a lot of energy in my sets and like to interact with the public. You will never see me spin records nonchalantly that's for sure!
You do loads of stuff in the midlands, are you doing any dates here in the summer for those who cant get abroad?
Yes of course, that's where my hardcore fans are! I'm in Nottingham for Hotdog's birthday on Saturday 28th May, at Polysexual in Birmingham the next day and on 11th June. I'll also be playing at Storm on 20th August. Other dates are waiting to be confirmed.
INTERVIEW - Roger Sanchez (DJ)
What can we expect from your "Release Yourself Parties"?
The Release Yourself parties to me are the perfect combination of music, sound, decor, entertainment and audience resulting in the most vibrant of parties.
How does it feel to have Galaxy presenting the Global Room at Pacha on Mondays? The first commercial station to gain a residency in Ibiza?
I have worked with Galaxy for many years now and the broadcast of the Release Yourself show on the network has proven one of the most successful dance music shows around. I always love working with the people from Galaxy as they take a serious approach to being involved. Getting them to host the Global Room was a natural progression in our relationship.
What tunes are you looking forward to playing this year?
Some of the tunes from my up and coming album later this year.
Why should people choose Pacha over one of the many other venues?
Pacha is without contest the most legendary club on the island, the people it attracts and the excellent lay out of the club combined with the top artists it programs result in a unique experience for any punter.
What are you going to be doing with yourself when you're not dj-ing this summer?
Finishing up the album record the radio show, record a new mobile phone show that is starting out on the Vodafone network and try to get some sun!
